Let’s Decorate for the Coziest Season of the Year

Starbucks released their 2023 fall drinks, which means we are officially heading into the fall season! Fall may not technically start until September 23 and it may still be 90+ degrees out, but if you were to visit my house, you would think otherwise.

Though I’ve always held a special place in my heart for Christmas, I find myself enjoying the fall season even more as I get older. It’s the anticipation of the holidays, cooler temperatures, warm and earthy decor, and seasonal treats that I love and look forward to each year! As you sip on your next pumpkin spiced latte (or pumpkin cold brew), consider trying some of my favorite ways to incorporate autumn tones into your home for the perfect fall ambiance.

One of the simplest and most effective way to evoke a sense of fall is by adding pumpkins. Whether they’re real, plush, plastic, wood, candle form, take your pick! I LOVE these $3 small plush pumpkins I found at the Target dollar (well used to be dollar) section. My home features mostly neutral colors so the tone and texture of these pumpkins are just perfect! Sherpa just makes everything cozier 😊I placed one on the powder room shelves and one on the kitchen island. I can’t find the exact ones online, but linked more decorative pumpkins at the end.

The next thing I love to incorporate into my home during this time of the year is fall foliage. Fall colors are so beautiful and they really seem to still pop in a neutral tone home in the most complementing way. If I had my way I would have fresh flowers 24/7, but the reality is that maintaining them can be quite demanding. Although I am super picky when it comes to faux stems, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the stems I found on Amazon. I often find the artificial stems on Amazon are a hit or miss, but the burgundy eucalyptus ones didn’t have a plasticky appearance and they opened up really nicely. I got a dark colored amber vase to place them in and voila! Don’t forget to swap out your spring and summer stems for these fall-inspired accents in places like your front door wreath, entryway decor, and tablescape.

Now that we’ve established the basic fall decor, it is time to create that warm and snug environment. I’m quite picky when it comes to candles because for me, the look of the candle is just as important as the scent. The appearance should seamlessly blend with the overall aesthetic of your home while also producing a pleasant scent that has good throw and is not overpowering. Two of my favorite candles I found this year are Anthropologie Pumpkin Clove Candle and the Ceramic Black Bowl Tobacco Vanilla candle from Target. Candles scented with notes of cinnamon, apple, and vanilla create a welcoming and cozy ambiance of fall.

Finally, chunky knits are the epitome of fall coziness. Oversized, heavier knit blankets and pillows are my personal fav and make me wanna snuggle up with my husband. Just imagine enjoying halloween movies (Hocus Pocus forever), cuddled up on the couch, and eating pumpkin flavored snacks, 100% yes.

SO, happy fall y’all and don’t let all the fall decor in the stores overwhelm you! Stick with these four key elements – pumpkins, fall foliage, candles, and chunky knits – and you can quickly turn your home into a cozy home filled with pumpkin spice and everything nice.
